Saturday, October 24th was the "International Day of Climate Action" (http://www.350.org/). 181 different countries participated, with over 5000 community actions, designed to *encourage* global leaders attending this December's Copenhagen climate change conference (http://en.cop15.dk/) to make binding carbon emission reduction targets. Whoo hoo!!
Our class (headed by Kiwi powerhouse Kati) organized a fantastic event in Karlskrona's major public sqaure, complete with an aerially-photographed, human graph charting today's carbon levels (389 parts per million) compared to where we need to be for what scientists believe is a safe level of global warming to occur (350 ppm). Hmmm... 'safe' global warming?
Bicycles formed the x/y axis; bodies formed the line of "baddies" (red dots of carbon shooting up past the tolerable levels of carbon in the atmosphere), the free-flowing carbon atoms, and the "goodies" (blue dots returning to 350 ppm). Our MSLS class gathered at least 60 innocent Swedish bystanders from the concurrent ooutdoor weekly produce market and coerced them into assisting with cookies and tea.
I highly recommend checking out some of the actions at 350.org - there is also a chance to sign your name in support of climate change leadership.
Sorry for my loooooong delay between posts, things have been a little busy lately! I've had a couple of lovely visits from home over the past few weeks (more on that later) and I'm almost done the first term of school - final exam this Friday! Hey hey ha whaT!!>>?
The season has changed - autumn is in full foggy, soggy, brown and orange swing. I love it!! Feels just like home with the fresh crisp air...
